Bonner, Putnam earn All-Region honors

WATERVILLE, Maine --

Colby College field hockey players Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) and Kristin Putnam (Messalonskee/Oakland, Maine) were each named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-Region Team on Monday.

Bonner, a junior forward, was named to the New England West Region First Team for the second straight year. Putnam, a junior defender, was selected to the second team. Bonner was also named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) First Team.

Bonner finished the regular season ranked in a tie for third in the NESCAC in points per game (2.20) with her 15 goals and three assists for 33 points and was tied for second in goals per game (1.00). She broke the Colby single-season goal scoring record and came within two points of tying the single-season point record.

Bonner, an NFHCA All-American last year, heads into her final season at Colby with 34 goals and eight assists for 76 career points. She needs just two goals to break the goal scoring record set by Letty Roberts, who had 35 goals in 1982. Roberts also has the all-time scoring record for the Mules with 100 points.

Putnam continued to shine at the sweeper role with 10 defensive saves. She ranks eighth in Division III in defensive saves per game (.667) and ninth in defensive saves. Putnam and the rest of the defense allowed just 20 goals in 15 games this season and has given up just 35 goals in the past two seasons.

Putnam has 24 career defensive saves in her first three seasons at Colby. Putnam is now playing for the Colby women's hockey team this winter, while Bonner is playing basketball.
