Nickerson wins fourth straight EISA ski race

HANOVER, N.H. --

Colby College men's alpine skier Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Tilton, N.H.) made it four victories in a row on the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association winter carnival circuit.

Nickerson won his fourth overall race in a row and has won the slalom three straight weeks after taking a victory at the Dartmouth College Ski Carnival on Friday at the Dartmouth Skiway.

Nickerson, in four weekends of skiing, has won five of the seven races held. He will go for his sixth victory of the season and try to make it five victories in a row in the giant slalom competition Saturday. Nickerson won the giant slalom at the Colby Carnival, captured the slalom at the St. Lawrence University Carnival and then swept the slalom and giant slalom races at the University of Vermont Carnival.

Nickerson had a two-run time of 1:38.82 (47.36 and 51.46) to hold off four Dartmouth skiers on their home course. Paul McDonald of Dartmouth was second in 1:38.90 and teammate Erik Kankainen had a 1:39.25 for third place. Nickerson and Kankainen tied for the top time at 47.36 in the opening run. Dartmouth's Karl Johnson, who took fourth place, had the fastest second run at 50.99.

In women's slalom racing, Colby's Siri Ashton (Burke Mt. Academy/Nellysford, Va.) placed 17th in 1:46.16 in helping the Mules take sixth place. Ashley Best (John Jay/South Salem, N.Y.) was 21st in 1:48.62. Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) did not race on Friday, while Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley/North Conway, N.H.) had problems on her second run and finished 38th.
