Colby Jenny Lathrop eighth in giant slalom
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --
Colby College sophomore women's alpine skier Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley School/North Conway, N.H.) finished in eighth place in the women's giant slalom on Saturday at the Eastern Championships at the Middlebury College Ski Carnival, held at the Middlebury Snow Bowl. Lathrop led Colby to a 5th-place finish out of 15 teams.
Lathrop, coming of her first-ever victory in the giant slalom last weekend at the Williams Carnival at Jiminy Peak, had runs of 1:02.61and1:03.02for a two-run total time of2:05.63. Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley School/North Conway, N.H.) was 12th in 2:06.68. Siri Ashton (Burke Mt. Academy/Nellysford, Va.) took 29th in 2:10.65 and Nicole Wessen (Mount Washington Valley/Rockland, Mass.) was 31st with a 2:11.78.
Colby skier Robert Saunders (Rowland Hall-St. Marks/Park City, Utah) took 13th place in the men's giant slalom with a total time of 2:02.33. The men's team was sixth out of 16 teams. Charlie Reed (Park City Winter Sports/Park City, Utah) finished in 30th place in 2:05.16.
Hilary Easter (Jay, Maine) was 31st for the women's Nordic team in the 10k Classic, with a time of 33:23.1. Eric Fitz (Cumberland, Maine) was the top finisher for the Mules in the men's 15k Classic, with a time of 45:55.5 and 33rd place. The men's and women's teams both took eighth place.
