A. Lathrop 11th in slalom at NCAA meet
TRUCKEE, Calif. --
Colby College sophomore Abbi Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley School/North Conway, N.H.) placed 11th and twin sister Jenny Lathrop (Green Mountain Valley School/North Conway, N.H.) took 15th in the slalom at the NCAA Division I Skiing Championships at the Sugar Bowl Ski Area on Friday.
On the men's side, Colby's Charlie Reed (Winter Sports School/Park City, Utah) was 19th in the slalom.
Abbi Lathrop just missed out on second team All-America honors, with places six to 10 earning that status. She had a two-run total time of 1:25.64 (41.38, 44.26) and Jenny Lathrop had a 1:26.35 (41.07, 45.28). Denver University's Pia Rivelsrud won the competition in 1:22.80.
Reed had runs of 39.35 and 39.44 for a 1:18.79 total. Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Tilton, N.H.) placed 26th in 1:21.05 after having problems on a 43.36 opening run. Nickerson had the eighth-best second run at 37.69. Robert Saunders (Rowland Hall-St. Marks/Park City, Utah) placed 31st in 1:27.95 after a tough first run in 48.53.
Colby was in 10th place in the team results (alpine and Nordic combined) after Friday's competition. The Mules, however, cannot score any more points since Colby does not have any Nordic skiers on Saturday's final day of competition.
