Four Mules named to All-NESCAC swimming team

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Junior Laura Miller (Manchester, N.H.), who won the 50- and 100-yard butterfly races at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship held at Wesleyan University February 20-22, was named to the women's NESCAC All-Conference team. Miller qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships with a clocking of 56.83 in the 100 butterfly while setting a school record. She also set a school record in the 100 backstroke with a 1:00.26, and qualified for provisional nationals in that event, as well as in the 50 freestyle (24.55) and set a NESCAC, meet and school record in the 50 butterfly in 25.31.

Annie Muir (Springfield, Va.) and Meg Vallaly (Lake Forest, Ill.), both in their first years at Colby, also were named to the team. Muir finished the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.05, which was a B-cut qualifying time and also good enough for third in the race. Vallaly also finished third and had a B-cut qualifying time, with a 1:54.26 in the 200-yard freestyle.

For the men, first-year Jabez Dewey (Worchester, Mass.) was named All-Conference for his performances in two events at the men's NESCAC Championships held at Bowdoin College this past weekend. He took second place in the 50-backstroke in 24.55 and qualified for B-cut provisional nationals for his third-place finish in 52.24 in the 100 backstroke.
