Bates volleyball beats Colby in conference playoffs
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --
Bates defeated Colby in a New England Small College Athletic Conference semifinal match-up, 3-1 (24-30, 30-28, 30-24, 30-27). Liz Wanless had an impressive 33 kills and 18 digs for the Bobcats. Olivia Zurek had 17 kills and 28 digs for Bates as well. Colby's Jennifer Radcliffe had 24 digs and Kimberly Prescott had 14 digs.
Colby had earlier closely beaten Wesleyan, 3-2 (36-34, 28-30, 30-19, 23-30, 15-12) in the quarterfinals to advance to play Bates. Bates was ranked second in the tournament; Colby was ranked third.
Host Williams eventually knocked off Bates in the championship game 3-0 (28-30, 22-30, 28-30) to take the league title. Williams did not lose a single set in consecutive wins against Bowdoin, Amherst and Bates. It was their third straight NESCAC Championship.
