Colby volleyball has 3-1 weekend at MIT Invitational
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --
The Colby College volleyball team won the Silver Bracket and took fifth place overall at the prestigious MIT Women's Volleyball Invitational on Saturday.
The Mules went 3-1 on the weekend and improved to 13-2 overall. Colby's only loss was to eventual champion Eastern University (Pa.). Most of the teams were NCAA Tournament squads last year and most of the top squads in New England competed.
Colby, ranked fourth in New England, took 3-2 victories over Colorado College (27-30, 27-30, 30-22, 30-27, 15-9) and Tufts University (30-24, 25-30, 25-30, 30-27, 15-8) on Saturday. The Mules also beat Wellesley (35-33, 30-24, 30-26) and lost to Eastern (30-21, 30-14, 30-23).
Cait Cleaver was named to the all-tournament team after having 48 kills in the four matches to go over 500 for her career at Colby. Cleaver had 12 kills, 17 defensive digs, four service aces and three blocks in helping the Mules rally past Colorado College. Johanna Schroeder had 14 kills and three blocks, Megan Devlin had 12 kills and 12 digs, Alyssa Henley added 11 digs and Jennifer Radcliffe had 26 defensive digs.
Kimberly Prescott had 42 assists in the win against Colorado College and then added 20 digs in the victory over Tufts. Devlin had 16 kills and 15 digs against Tufts, Henley had 15 kills, Schroeder finished with 12 kills and six blocks, and Radcliffe had 21 digs.
Prescott had 35 assists, five aces and 11 digs against Wellesley. Cleaver led in kills with 13 and Radcliffe chipped in with 19 digs.
