Southern Maine women's hockey slips by Colby
WATERVILLE, Maine --
University of Southern Maine scored two goals in a span of eight seconds late in the third period to pull out a 3-2 victory over Colby College in women's hockey Tuesday night at Alfond Arena.
Colby (0-3) had taken a 2-1 lead when Mallory Young (Hanover, N.H.) scored with 3:59 left in the game.
The Huskies tied the game with 3:05 left on a goal by Bevin Padgett (Needham, Mass.). Southern Maine then won the face-off and Jen Carboni (Cheshire, Conn.) knocked in a shot off a centering pass from Kerry Leonard (Stamford, Conn.) just eight seconds later.
USM (3-2-1) scored first in the opening period on a goal by Jessica Judge (Porter, Maine) just 3:17 into play. However, the Mules tied the game at 1-1 at the 16:50 mark of the first period when Young scored off assists from Christina Dotchin (Essex, Vt.) and goalie Lynn Hasday (Rockville Centre, N.Y.).
Karen Jamnik stopped 20 shots for Southern Maine, while Hasday made 12 saves.
