Utica defeats Colby in women's hockey
BRUNSWICK, Maine --
The Utica College women's hockey team received two goals from Michelle Tesoro in taking a 4-1 victory over Colby College in a game played at Bowdoin College on Sunday.
Stephanie Price and Deanna Wiegand each had one goal and one assist for the Pioneers (4-3-1), who took a 3-3 tie with fourth-ranked Bowdoin on Saturday at Colby.
Heather DeVito (Arlington, Mass.), who just returned to the lineup Saturday against Manhattanville after an illness, had the lone goal for Colby. Kate Sweeney (Milton, Mass.) added the assist on DeVito's goal.
Utica scored with just 1:45 left in the first period to take a 1-0 lead into the break. The Mules did tie the game at 1-1 at the 7:09 mark of the second period, but the Pioneers scored just 31 seconds later on a goal by Wiegand.
Lynn Hasday (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had 24 saves for the Mules.
Colby plays at Plattsburgh State this Friday at 7 p.m. and then travels to Clarkson University for a 2 p.m. game Saturday.
