Second-ranked Middlebury women's hockey tops Colby
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Middlebury College forward Abby Kurtz-Phelan (Denver, Colo.) had a goal and an assist in leading the second-ranked Panthers to a 3-0 victory over Colby College in women's hockey Friday night at Alfond Arena.
Shannon Tarrant (Brookfield, Conn.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 14:46 of the opening period for Middlebury's opening goal.
Kurtz-Phelan added an unassisted goal at 9:23 of the second period and then assisted on a goal by Lorna Gifis (Princeton, N.J.) just 18 seconds into the third period.
Kati Madouros (White Plains, N.Y.) had 12 saves in posting the shutout for Middlebury (17-3). Lynn Hasday (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) stopped 42 shots for Colby, which plays host to Williams College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
