Colby women's hockey wins third game of season
CLINTON, N.Y. --
Heather DeVito scored twice in the third period to lead Colby College to a 3-1 win against Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference womenās ice hockey game at Sage Rink on Feb. 6.
DeVito now has a team-high nine goals. Sasha Schroeder scored the Mulesā other goal. Kate Sweeney and Caitlin Hickey added two assists apiece. Hickey leads the team with seven assists while Sweeney has six. Lynn Hasday made 24 saves for Colby (3-7-0 NESCAC, 3-13-0).
Kristina Carroll scored the Continentalsā lone goal on assists from Eden Self and Marissa Halligan. Self, who has a team-high 10 assists this season, is tied with assistant coach Amy Clausen for most in a career at Hamilton with 63 assists. Nicolle Defoster made 17 saves in the first start of her career. The Continentals, who have lost nine straight games, dropped to 4-9-0 and 4-11-1.
After a scoreless first period, Schroeder broke the ice with 2:44 left in the second period when she one-timed a pass from Michele Barmash past Defoster from right in front of the net. DeVito made it 2-0 at the 13:44 mark of the third period and scored again just 20 seconds later for a 3-0 lead. Carrollās third goal of the season put Hamilton on the scoreboard with 3:42 remaining.
The two teams will play again at Sage Rink on Feb. 7 at 3 p.m.
