Colby women's hockey falls to Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. --

Eden Self and Zoe Baldwin recorded a goal and an assist apiece to lead Hamilton College to a 3-1 victory in a New England Small College Athletic Conference womenās ice hockey game at Sage Rink on Feb. 7.

The Continentals (5-9-0 NESCAC, 5-11-1 overall) snapped a nine-game losing streak with the victory. Self has a team-high 11 assists this season and is Hamiltonās new career leader in that category with 64. Amy Clausen registered 63 assists from 1996-99. Baldwin leads the Continentals with 14 goals. Marissa Halligan also scored for Hamilton. Nicolle Defoster made 20 saves, including 12 in the first period, to earn the first victory of her career.

Colby, which had beaten the Continentals by an identical 3-1 score on Friday night, dropped to 3-8-0 in the conference and 3-14-0 overall. Michele Barmash scored an unassisted goal and Lynn Hasday stopped 24 shots for the Mules.

Barmash gave Colby an early 1-0 lead when she gained control of a face-off in Hamiltonās zone and shoved the puck past Defoster just 2:49 into the first period. The Continentals responded with Selfās eleventh goal and Halliganās sixth 2:42 apart midway through the first for a 2-1 lead. It remained a one-goal game until Baldwin scored on the record-breaking assist from Self 41 seconds into the third period.
