Colby women's soccer easily defeats Southern Maine
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Laura Williamson (Manchester, Conn.) and Libba Cox (Guilford, Conn.) each had two goals and one assist to lead the Colby College women's soccer team to a 6-1 non-conference victory over University of Southern Maine on Thursday.
The Mules clinch a winning season with their 7-5-1 record heading into the final game of the year at home against Tufts University at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Southern Maine falls to 6-8-2 and will play at Eastern Connecticut at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Williamson, who leads the New England Small College Athletic Conference in points per game, now has 13 goals and seven assists for 33 points. Cox raised her season totals to seven goals and one assist for 15 points.
Meg Cordner (Katonah, N.Y.) and Christina Andaya (Old Bridge, N.J.) both had one goal and one assist for the Mules. Liz Morbeck (Seattle, Wash.) added two assists and now has five goals and three assists on the season.
Colby led 2-0 at halftime before exploding for four goals in the opening 25:37 of the second half. Elizabeth Riley (Saco, Maine) stopped five shots for the winners.
Eva Hanson (Warner, N.H.) scored her ninth goal of the season for the Huskies with about 14 minutes left in the game.
