Colby women's soccer rips Husson, 9-0
WATERVILLE, Maine --
Sophomore forward Kristin Schmidt (Lawrence/Littleton, Mass.) had three goals and sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Herlihy (Simsbury/Simsbury, Conn.) added three assists as the Colby College women's soccer team opened the season with an easy 9-0 win over Husson College in a non-conference game Saturday.
Colby (1-0) started five first-year players and all made an immediate impact in the opening half. Libba Cox (Choate Rosemary Hall/Guilford, Conn.) scored her first two collegiate goals in the first 11 minutes of the contest. Laura Williamson (Kingswood Oxford/Manchester, Conn.) added one goal and two assists in her collegiate debut. Liz Morbeck (Lakeside School/Seattle, Wash.), another first-year player, had one goal and one assist.
Kara McCabe (Taft School/Watertown, Conn.) tallied on a penalty kick and sophomore Kelly DeLong (Monson/Monson, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal for the Mules.
Colby goalkeepers Elizabeth Riley (Thornton Academy/Saco, Maine) and Liza Benson (Lawrence/Orchid, Fla.) each played a half and combined for one save in the shutout.
