Colby baseball opens season in Florida
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Colby College baseball team opened the season in Florida with four losses at the beginning of a 10-game road trip.
The Mules fell 10-7 to Amherst College and 15-2 to Knox College on Saturday. Colby then lost 5-4 and 5-2 to Plymouth State in a doubleheader Sunday.
Colby led 4-0 in the opener against Plymouth State after two innings. Plymouth State chipped away with two runs in the third inning and then lone runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Brian Liberty and Nick Spillane each had two hits and Spillane added two RBI for Colby. Andy Carr and Spillane both had doubles in the game and Steve Sandak had one RBI. Tyler Hales started and pitched five innings for Colby.
In the loss to Knox, Carr had a pair of doubles to lead Colby.
No other information was available on the Amherst game or the second Plymouth State contest.
