Trinity baseball takes sweep of Mules
HARTFORD, Conn. ---- Sophomore Jon Rappaport (Longmeadow, Mass.) and senior Joe Westcott (Holyoke, Mass.) pitched complete games to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a doubleheader sweep over the Colby College Mules in NESCAC East baseball action.
Rappaport pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on six hits in the first game, while Westcott threw a two hit shutout in the second game as Trinity rolled past Colby 5-1, and 9-0. Trinity, ranked No. 1 in New England and No. 4 nationally, improves to 21-2 overall and 8-1 in the NESCAC East with the wins. Colby falls to 0-18 overall and 0-6 in the NESCAC with the losses.
Freshman Chandler Barnard (Lubbock, Tex.) paced the Trinity offense with two hits and a home run in the first game, while Rappaport struck out four and walked only one en route to the win. In the second game, senior co-captain Andrew Fries (Dublin, Ohio) collected two doubles and scored two runs, and Tim Cleary (Suffield, Conn.) hit his first career home run as Trinity cruised to a 9-0 win. Westcott pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and no walks with five strikeouts for the win.
Sam Kennedy-Smith (Newton, Mass.) had two hits in each game and junior left Tyler Hales (Lexington, Mass.) allowed just five hits as the hard-luck loser on the mound for Colby.
