Colby track/cross country men's coach to be honored
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Todd Coffin, Colby College's men's cross country and track and field head coach, will be inducted into the Maine Running Hall of Fame at a ceremony this Sunday.
Coffin will be one of six people honored at the induction and awards ceremony at Killarney's Restaurant in Waterville from noon to 3 p.m.
Coffin, a member of the Colby Class of 1983, is in his second season with the Mules. He was Colby's first NCAA champion in any sport when he won the steeplechase race at the 1983 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships.
A three-time All-American, Coffin also took second in the country in the steeplechase as a junior and was sixth in the race his sophomore season. Coffin also competed three times in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.
An avid runner, Coffin frequently joins his team on daily runs and races competitively on the roads and track. He finished fifth in the Masters National Indoor Mile Run and won the Masters New England Half Marathon in 2002.
Besides graduating from Colby, Coffin also earned a master's degree from Purdue University in 1986. He took over Colby's men's track and field and cross country programs after longtime coach Jim Wescott retired two years ago. Wescott was the head coach at Colby when Coffin won his national title.
