COLBY FIELD HOCKEY PLAYERS BONNER, PUTNAM NAMED TO ALL-REGION TEAM

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College forward Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.) and sweeper Kristin Putnam (Messalonskee/Oakland, Maine) were each named to the 2004 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III New England West Region Team. Bonner made the first team and is now eligible for a shot at earning a third straight All-America honor. Putnam made the second team for the second straight year.

Bonner, who earned third team All-America honors the past two years, led the Mules in scoring with 10 goals and six assists for 26 points despite often being double-teamed. Bonner finished her field hockey career with 44 goals and 14 assists for 102 career points and set school records for career points, goals, and single-season goals (15).

Bonner was named to play in the 2004 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III North/South Senior All-Star game, but had to back out because of basketball commitments. Bonner also plays on the softball team at Colby.

Bonner had already earned New England Small College Athletic Conference first team honors for the third straight season. Putnam, who made the NESCAC second team, is the all-time defensive saves leader at Colby with 31. Putnam led the Mules with seven defensive saves in 2004.

Putnam ranked 16th in the latest Division III statistics in defensive saves and defensive saves per game (.438). Putnam is currently playing on the women's hockey team at Colby.
