Bonner, Putnam, Enos make NESCAC all-conference
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College forward Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.), sweeper Kristin Putnam (Messalonskee/Oakland, Maine), and goaltender Jamie Enos (Brooks School/South Hamilton, Mass.) were each named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Field Hockey All-Conference team Wednesday.
Bonner was named to the first team for the third consecutive year by a vote of the league's coaches. Putnam made the second team, while Enos earned Co-Rookie of the Year honors.
Bonner, a two-time national All-American, led the Mules in scoring with 10 goals and six assists for 26 points despite often being double teamed. Bonner finished her field hockey career with 44 goals and 14 assists for 102 career points and set school records for career points, goals, and single-season goals (15).
Bonner was named to play in the 2004 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III North/South Senior All-Star game on Saturday, November 20 at Westfield State College at 11 a.m. Bonner is one of four NESCAC players who were named to play in the contest.
Putnam made the NESCAC All-Conference team for the first time. She is the all-time defensive saves leader at Colby with 31. Putnam, an All-Region selection last year, led the Mules with seven defensive saves in 2004.
Putnam ranked 16th in the latest Division III statistics in defensive saves and defensive saves per game (.438).
Enos currently ranks first in the NESCAC in save percentage (.885) and finished the regular season at second in the conference in goals against average (0.90). She currently is eighth in Division III in save percentage.
Enos, who ended the season with a 1.25 goals against average, set a NESCAC playoff record with 15 saves in a 1-0 quarterfinal win over Bowdoin College. A week later, Enos broke her own record with 17 stops in a 4-0 semifinal loss to Middlebury College.
Enos shared the rookie honor with Connecticut College forward Jill Mauer.
Middlebury's Janie Mackey was named NESCAC Player of the Year. She was the first defender to earn the award since the conference began awarding the honor in 1999.
