FIFTH-RANKED AMHERST MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS COLBY
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Andrew Schiel (Conestoga/Wayne, Pa.) and John Bedford
(Lawrenceville/Ridgewood, N.J.) each had 19 points and six rebounds to lead
fifth-ranked Amherst College to an 85-58 victory over Colby College in New
England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Amherst moved to 16-1 overall and 5-0 in the NESCAC, while Colby fell to
10-6 and 1-4 in the league.
Colby shot 52 percent from the field in the first half and only trailed
40-33 at the break, but Amherst quickly opened up a big lead in the first
10 minutes of the second half.
John Casnocha (San Francisco University HS/San Francisco, Calif.) added 13
points and six rebounds for the Lord Jeffs. Russell Lee (Hayfield
Secondary/Lorton, Va.) and Dan O'Shea (Central Catholic/Lawrence, Mass.)
both had eight points.
Colby received 17 points from senior captain Patrick McGowan (North
Attleboro/North Attleboro, Mass.). Nick Farrell (Aspen/Kennebunk, Maine)
had nine points and four assists for the Mules.
Amherst shot 53 percent from the field, including a 57 percent effort in
the second half.
