BABSON MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS COLBY, 80-69
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Jeff Nicholson (Methuen, Mass.) had 23 points, eight
rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals to lead the Babson College
men's basketball team to an 80-69 victory over Colby College in
non-conference play Tuesday.
Babson improved to 3-0 this season, while Colby fell to 2-1.
Dan Elliman (Tewksbury, Mass.) added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the
Beavers. CJ Enere (Hyde Park, Mass.) added 13 points, six assists, and
three steals, while Brooks Brown (Cleveland, Ohio) had 10 points.
Colby, which lost 89-54 at Babson a year ago, battled to a 33-33 tie at
halftime. The Mules led 44-42 with 15:13 left in the game, but Nicholson
led a charge that put Babson ahead 67-54 with 5:36 remaining. Colby fought
back and cut the lead to 68-64 on a 3-point shot by Patrick McGowan (North
Attleboro, Mass.) with 2:57 left, only to see Babson score the next five
points to pull away again.
Babson shot 53 percent in the second half and had a 46-39 rebounding advantage.
Drew Cohen (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) had 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting,
seven rebounds, and six blocked shots before leaving with an injury in the
final 10 minutes of the second half. McGowan had 15 points and four steals,
Nick Farrell (Kennebunk, Maine) scored nine points, had six rebounds, and
dished six assists. Jared Cushman (Augusta, Maine) and Mike Rutherford
(Wyckoff, N.J.) both had eight points.
Colby returns to action next Tuesday at home against Newbury College at 7 p.m.
