Colby men's basketball beats local rival Thomas
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Michael Westbrooks (Berkshire School/Dublin, Ireland)
outscored Thomas College by himself in the opening half in leading the
Colby College men's basketball team to a 77-60 victory over their
Waterville rival Sunday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Westbrooks had 16 of his game-high 17 points in the opening half as the
Mules took a 38-14 lead at intermission. Colby led by more than 30 points
in the second half before Thomas (3-2) made a late run behind its reserve
players.
Colby (5-1) held Thomas to just 17 percent shooting in the opening half and
had a 29-19 rebounding advantage. The Mules led 23-5 with just under 10
minutes gone in the first half.
Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro/North Attleboro, Mass.) had 12 points,
eight rebounds and three steals for Colby. Preston Decker (Newton
North/West Newton, Mass.) finished with eight points and 11 rebounds, while
Mike Rutherford (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) had nine points. Tom Nale
(Waterville/Waterville, Maine) and Andrew Jenkins (Gorham/Gorham, Maine)
both had six points. The Mules also got a game-high six assists from Nick
Farrell (Aspen/Kennebunk, Maine).
Andrew Woodbury (Windham/Standish, Maine) led Thomas with 11 points. Josh
Berard (Lawrence/Fairfield, Maine) added 10 points and Ryan Conrad
(Cony/Augusta, Maine) had seven points and eight rebounds.
Colby held Adam Rich (Madison/Madison, Maine), the leading scorer this year
for Thomas, to just 2-for-17 shooting and eight points.
