BIG SECOND HALF POWERS COLBY PAST SOUTHERN MAINE IN MEN'S BASKETBALL
WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College men's basketball team improved to
6-1 overall after using a big second half to pull out a 68-42 victory over
University of Southern Maine on Wednesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Colby only led 26-22 at halftime and trailed for much of the first half.
The Mules only led 34-30 with 14:55 left in the game, but gradually started
pulling away for a 45-35 lead with 7:29 to play. The Mules then used a 15-0
run over the next three minutes to blow the game open.
Patrick McGowan (North Attleboro/North Attleboro, Mass.) had 17 points and
four steals for the Mules. Michael Westbrooks (Berkshire School/Dublin,
Ireland) added 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. Andrew Jenkins
(Gorham/Gorham, Maine) finished with 10 points and five steals, while Mike
Rutherford (Ramapo/Wyckoff, N.J.) also had 10 points. Nick Farrell
(Aspen/Kennebunk, Maine) dished six assists for Colby and Mark Gaudet
(Valley/Bingham, Maine) came off the bench with eight points in just four
minutes.
Jason Levecque (Westbrook/Westbrook, Maine) and Josh Daniels (Maine Central
Insitute/Seattle, Wash.) both had 11 points for Southern Maine (3-4).
