COLBY MEN'S HOCKEY DEFEATS WILLIAMS, 5-2 COLBY MEN'S HOCKEY DEFEATS WILLIAMS, 5-2 (Colby coach Tortorella wins 150th game)
WATERVILLE, Maine --- First-year forward Josh Reber (Taft School/Edina,
Minn.) had three goals and one assist to help Colby College head coach Jim
Tortorella win his 150th career game with the Mules and lead the way to a
5-2 victory over Williams College at Alfond Arena on Friday night.
Tortorella, in his 10th season with the Mules, improved his career record
to 150-70-19. Three first-year players scored the five goals to give
Tortorella his milestone win.
After Williams (4-7-1, 4-3-0) tied the game at 2-2 in the third period,
Colby scored the final three goals of the game to pull away in improving to
8-2-1 overall and 6-2 in the league.
Reber scored the game-winning goal off an assist from captain Patrick Walsh
(Choate Rosemary Hall/Easton, Conn.) at 7:53 of the third period. Reber
tallied again at 13:36 for an insurance goal and first-year forward T.J.
Kelley (Taft School/Ridgefield, Conn.) added the final goal at 14:15.
Williams opened the scoring in the first period at 4:30 on a goal by Jim
Canner (Deerfield/Wyomissing, Pa.). The Mules tied it at 1-1 at
intermission when first-year defensemen Arthur Fritch (St.
Sebastian's/South Boston, Mass.) scored.
Reber got his first goal of the game at 16:16 of the second period for the
only goal in the middle period.
Chris Ries (Taft School/Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped 20 shots for Colby, while
Williams goalie Brad Shirley (St. Paul's/Hanover, N.H.) made 29 saves.
Colby plays host to defending national champion Middlebury at 4 p.m.
Saturday. Williams heads to Bowdoin for a 4 p.m. game.
