Colby men's hockey ties 12th-ranked Curry
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College goalie Chris Ries (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped 39 shots, but Curry College managed to come from behind twice from two goals down to forge a 3-3 overtime tie in men's hockey Tuesday night at Alfond Arena.
Colby (6-1-1), ranked 16th in the latest Division III poll, extended its unbeaten streak to seven games. Curry, ranked 12th nationally, moved to 6-2-1.
The Mules scored two goals in the opening 7:18 of play off the sticks of T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Jared Gordon (Bangor, Maine). Curry, though, scored just 29 seconds after Gordon's goal when Michael O'Sullivan (Dorchester, Mass.) cut the lead to 2-1.
Colby senior forward Nick Bayley (Cambridge, Ontario) made a nice individual effort to give the Mules a 3-1 lead with 5:09 left in the second period. Bayley moved into a tie with Dick Morrison '61 for seventh place among Colby's all-time leading scorers with 53 goals and 78 assists for 131 points.
Curry tied the game with two goals midway through the third period. Manu Mau'u (Torrance, Calif.) scored at 8:34 of the period and Ryan Murphy (Winthrop, Mass.) had the tying goal at 12:49.
Michael Ronan (Braintree, Mass.) made 28 stops for Curry.
