Colby men's hockey defeats UMass-Boston
WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College men's hockey team stayed unbeaten in the last eight games with a 6-1 victory over University of Massachusetts at Boston on Friday night at Alfond Arena.
Colby is 7-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the last eight games heading into Saturday's 4 p.m. home game with Babson College. UMass-Boston fell to 2-7.
Cory Ernst (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) and Josh Reber (Edina, Minn.) both had one goal and two assists for the Mules, who had two goals in each period. First-year defensemen Arthur Fritch (South Boston, Mass.) added three assists on the first four goals of the game.
Reber and Joel Morash scored in the first period for Colby for a 2-0 lead. The Mules scored two goals (Jason Weigel and Patrick Slipp) in the final five minutes of the second period to put the game away.
Joel Morash (Liverpool, Nova Scotia) and Nick Bayley (Cambridge, Ontario) both had one goal and one assist for Colby. Greg Osborne (Stoughton, Mass.) had two assists.
Patrick Donlan (Norwell, Mass.) had the lone goal for the Beacons, who got 36 saves from Sean Bertoni (Franklin, Mass.).
Chris Ries (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 16 saves for Colby in improving to 6-0-1 this year.
