U.S. Under-18 Team stops Colby in exhibition game
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Phil Kessel (Madison, Wisc.) had three goals and one assist in leading the U.S. National Under-18 Team to a 5-1 exhibition game victory over Colby College in the Bowdon-Colby Face-Off Classic at Alfond Arena on Sunday.
Kessel earned tournament MVP honors in leading the U.S. team to the tournament title. The national squad also took a 5-1 victory over Bowdoin on Saturday night.
Despite being out-shot by a 41-22 margin, the U.S. squad got 40 saves from goalie Jeff Frazee (Burnsville, Minn.).
Colby battled to a 1-1 tie after the first period on a goal by Nick Bayley (Cambridge, Ontario). Kevin Lyons (Canton, Mass.) and Patrick Walsh (Easton, Conn.) had assists on Bayley's goal.
Ben Grandjean (Waterford, Conn.) had 17 saves for Colby.
In the other game Sunday, Bowdoin took an 8-4 win against Salve Regina.
