COLBY MEN'S HOCKEY HOLDS OFF SOUTHERN MAINE, 4-3
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Cory Ernst's (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia) second period
goal gave Colby College a 4-0 lead and it ended up being the game-winning
goal as University of Southern Maine scored three goals in the final period
as the Mules held on for a 4-3 victory on Friday night at Alfond Arena.
Colby (13-6-1) led 3-0 after the first period on goals by Patrick Walsh
(Easton, Conn.), Jason Weigel (Madison, Wisc.) and T.J. Kelley (Ridgefield,
Conn.). Ernst scored the lone goal of the second period.
Jon Lounsbury (Winthrop, Mass.) scored the first of three power play goals
at 1:11 of the third period for Southern Maine (8-7-1). Brian Collins
(Reading, Mass.) and Eric Kent (Newburyport, Mass.) added goals in the
final six minutes for the Huskies, but the Mules denied USM anything more
to pull out the win.
Ben Grandjean (Waterford, Conn.) stopped 27 shots for Colby, while Ryan
Sullivan (Newton, Mass.) made 36 saves for USM.
