NORWICH HANDS MULES LOSS, 7-3

NORTHFIELD, Vt. --- Norwich senior Kurtis McLean scored a hat trick as the Cadets skated to a 7-3 victory over Colby College at Kreitzberg Arena. McLean's third goal gives him 109 goals in his career, which moves him into second place on NU's career goals list.

McLean's first goal opened the scoring at 10:58 into the first period. The Mules countered with a game-tying goal some three minutes later as Joel Morash scored off the assist of Cory Ernst and Arthur Fritch. McLean put the Cadets ahead for good when he scored his second goal with just under six minutes to play in the period.

Five and a half minutes into the second period, NU extended the lead at 3-1 as Mike Serba scored his tenth goal of the season. At 8:21, Garrett Winder tallied the next Norwich goal off the assist of Noah Lucia. McLean completed the hat trick midway through the period, which prompted a goalie change for Colby as Ben Grandjean replaced starter Chris Ries. Colby then scored the only power-play goal of the night when Joe Rothwell found the back of the net with four minutes left in the period.

Norwich senior Vadim Beliaev made his pitch for a hat trick in the third period when he scored a pair of goals, the first two and a half minutes into the period, and the other with just under four minutes to play. Sandwiched in between was a goal off the stick of Jason Weigel with Greg Osborne and Patrick Rutherford assisting.

Norwich goalie Mike Boudreau recorded 21 saves on the night, while Colby goalies Chris Ries and Ben Grandjean recorded 19 and 16 saves, respectively. The White Mules went 1-for-3 on power-play opportunities, while the Cadets went 0-for-3. Norwich is now 14-2-3 overall and 12-0-2 in the ECAC East, while Colby goes to 11-5-1 in all games played and 9-5 in the NESCAC.
