12th-ranked Amherst men's lacrosse stops Colby
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Chris Hofmann (New Canaan, Conn.) had three goals and two assists in powering 12th-ranked Amherst College to an 11-4 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's lacrosse Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
Amherst (4-1, 2-1 NESCAC) led 4-1 after the first quarter and 6-2 at halftime. Hofmann had two goals and one assist in helping the Lord Jeffs score the only three goals of the third quarter. Colby (1-4, 0-2 NESCAC) and Amherst each had two goals in the final quarter.
Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, N.Y.) had three goals and one assist and Josh Cherney (Chappaqua, N.Y.) added two goals for Amherst.
Ryan Scott (Columbia, N.J.) led the Mules with three goals. Tim Brown (Manchester, Mass.) had one goal and one assist.
Amherst goaltender Cushing Donelan (Noroton, Conn.) had nine stops and allowed just two goals in 55 minutes of work. Colby goalie Jeff Miller (Marshfield, Mass.) made 13 saves.
