Colby men's soccer wins local battle with Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Monty Hankin (Canandaigua, N.Y.) had one goal and one assist as Colby College scored all three of its goals in a 16-minute span of the second half to pull away for a 3-0 non-conference victory over Thomas College on Wednesday.

The Mules (4-5-1) dominated the opening half statistically with a 13-3 advantage in shots, but no team was able to score. Colby held Thomas to no shots in the second half and finally got the offense going with three goals.

Hankin scored at 55:40 from Brian Kasarjian (Plymouth, Mass.) for the eventual game-winning goal. Hankin leads the Mules this year with five goals.

Michael Butler (Saint John, N.B., Canada) scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from Hankin at 69:33 to give Colby an insurance goal.

James Pilgrim (Baltimore, Md.) scored the prettiest goal of the day with help from Brian Kelly (Milford, Mass.) and Daniel Kiernan (Brookline, Mass.). Off a restart from the left side, Kiernan blasted a pass across the box to Kelly on the right side of the goal. Kelly headed the ball back across the goal area to Pilgrim, who put a chest on the ball for the goal at 71:26.

Brian Davidson (Needham, Mass.) and Josh Kahane (Newton, Mass.) did not have to make a save in sharing the shutout.

Colby plays host to Connecticut College at 11 a.m. Saturday.
