Wesleyan men's soccer goes overtime to beat Colby
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Brandon Smith (Montclair/Montclair, N.J.) scored
three minutes into overtime in lifting the Wesleyan University men's soccer
team to a 3-2 victory against Colby College on Saturday in New England
Small College Athletic Conference play.
Smith finished the day with a pair of goals and one assist for the
Cardinals (4-4, 3-2).
Wesleyan scored first on a goal by Evan Berding (Roanoke Catholic/Roanoke,
Va.) in the 12th minute. Colby (3-3-2, 1-3-1), which had its five-game
unbeaten streak snapped, tied the game in the 22nd minute on a goal by
Monty Hankin (Canadaigua Academy/Canandaigua, N.Y.).
Smith scored in the 57th minute for a 2-1 Wesleyan lead, but the Mules tied
it again when Bobby Abendroth (BB&N/Natick, Mass.) tallied with 12 minutes
left in the game.
