BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Colby College got its first win of the season as three different players scored for a 3-0 shutout of the University of New England in a non-conference men's soccer match Thursday afternoon.

The Mules (1-2) got on the scoreboard in the 12th minute when sophomore Daniel Kiernan (Brookline, Mass.) converted a centering pass from classmate Chris MacFadyen (Providence, R.I.).

Colby salted the match away early in the second half when senior Brian Kelly (Milford, Mass.) and first-year Will Kinder (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored 13 seconds apart. Kelly put home a rebound to make the score 2-0, then Kinder added another Mule insurance goal on an assist from sophomore James Pilgrim (Baltimore, Md.).

Senior Brian Davidson (Needham, Mass.) had three saves in 70 minutes of playing time to record the win for Colby, which held a 22-5 advantage in shots.

Junior Steve Bishop (Ooltewah, Tenn.) made several impressive stops for the Nor'easters (0-4-1) and finished the day with 11 saves.

Colby travels to NESCAC opponent Trinity College for an 11 a.m. game Saturday.
