MEN'S NORDIC TEAM FOURTH IN 15K AT BATES SKI CARNIVAL
RUMFORD, Maine --- The Colby College men's Nordic ski team had one of its best finishes in years after taking fourth place out of 10 teams in the
15-kilometer race at the Bates College Ski Carnival at Sunday River on Saturday.
Fred Bailey had a time of 39:43.2 in taking 11th place for the Colby men. Brandon Smithwood was 14th in 39:50.4, Austin Ross placed 22nd in 40:43.7 and Kris Dobie was right behind him in 23rd place in 40:48.1.
University of Vermont's Ethan Foster won the 15K race in 36:41.4 to help
the Catamounts win the men's team competition with 195 points. Middlebury
had 173 points, St. Lawrence was third with 171 and Colby had 160 points.
In women's 10K Nordic racing, the Mules placed ninth out of 10 teams. Hillary Easter was first across the line for Colby in 32nd place in 33:43.4.
Charlie Reed was seventh for the Colby men's alpine team to help the Mules place seventh of nine teams in the slalom. Reed had runs of 53.75 and 58.11 for a total time of 1:51.86. Robert Saunders was 20th for Colby in 1:55.41 and Ryan Praskievicz took 25th in 1:59.36.
Abbi Lathrop was eighth overall in the women's slalom for Colby in 1:38.21. Nicole Wessen placed 24th in 1:41.45 for Colby, which took fifth place in
the slalom out of nine teams.
Colby was sixth overall in the meet out of 11 schools with 514 points.
University of Vermont won the competition with 718 points.
