NICKERSON WINS SECOND ALPINE SKI RACE IN A ROW
LYME CENTER, N.H. --- Colby College men's alpine skier Warner Nickerson (Tilton, N.H.) made it two wins in a row by taking the giant slalom at the Dartmouth College Ski Carnival at the Dartmouth Skiway in Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) competition Friday.
Nickerson won his seventh EISA race in the past two years and his second straight after winning the slalom at the Vermont Ski Carnival last Saturday.
Nickerson was the lone skier under one minute on the opening run with a time of 59.94. He added a 1:01.01 on his second trip down the hill and had a total time of 2:00.95. University of Vermont's Greg Hardy had a 2:01.33 (1:00.64, 1:00.69) for second place and Dartmouth's Evan Weiss took third with a 2:01.58 (1:00.11, 1:01.47).
The Colby men's giant slalom team finished third with 76 points. Dartmouth was first with 87 and Vermont held off the Mules with 77 points for second.
Robert Saunders (Park City, Utah) placed eighth in the giant slalom in 2:02.79 (1:01.02, 1:01.77). Rory Kelly (Charlottesville, Va.) was 24th in 2:04.24 and Jody Centauro (Beaconsfield, Quebec) placed 33rd in 2:05.98.
The women's giant slalom team also placed third with 71 points behind Middlebury (93) and Vermont (86). Siri Ashton (East Burke, Vt.) continues to put up solid finishes, this time with an eighth place in 2:10.94 (1:05.07, 1:05.87). Nicole Wessen (Rockland, Mass.) was 11th in 2:11.27, Abbi Lathrop (North Conway, N.H.) placed 17th in 2:11.98 and Alissa Consenstein was 30th in 2:16.03.
The Colby men's Nordic team placed seventh as Fred Bailey (Andover, Maine) was 19th in 36:28.4 over 10 kilometers. Kris Dobie (Walpole, N.H.) was 27th in 37:47.3, Austin Ross (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) was 32nd with a 38:20.6 and Jeff Alden (Caribou, Maine) took 33rd in 38:21.9.
The Colby women's Nordic team was eighth behind a 32nd place finish from Hillary Easter (Jay, Maine) in 21:31.2 over the 5-kilometer course.
Colby is sixth in the overall team standings with 225 points heading into Saturday's competitions.
