LATHROP SEVENTH FOR WOMEN, KELLY NINTH FOR MEN IN SLALOM AT DARTMOUTH
LYME CENTER, N.H. --- Colby College women's alpine skier Abbi Lathrop
(North Conway, N.H.) placed seventh in the slalom on the second day of
competition at the Dartmouth College Ski Carnival on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Rory Kelly (Charlottesville, Va.) had his best finish as a Colby
skier with a ninth for the men's alpine team.
Lathrop had a time of 1:43.29, while teammate Nicole Wessen (Rockland,
Mass.) was 18th in 1:46.41. Siri Ashton (East Burke, Vt.) placed 28th in
1:50.34 as the women's team was fifth in the slalom.
Kelly had a two-run total time of 1:37.71 to help the Colby men place sixth
in the slalom. Charlie Reed (Park City, Utah) was 14th in 1:38.79 and
Robert Saunders (Park City, Utah) took 17th in 1:39.25. Warner Nickerson
(Tilton, N.H.) had problems on his first run and finished 34th overall, but
his 52.32 time on the second run was the best of the day.
The Nordic ski teams combined for a 5-kilometer mixed relay. Colby's team
of Kris Dobie (Walpole, N.H.), Hillary Easter (Jay, Maine), Fred Bailey
(Andover, Maine) and Mariah Whitney (Brownfield, Maine) placed 19th in
1:18:35.1.
Colby placed sixth out of 11 teams in the overall team standings with 422
points.
