Lathrop sixth in giant slalom for Colby women

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --- Colby College women's alpine skier Abbi Lathrop placed sixth in the giant slalom at the Williams College Ski Carnival on Friday.

Lathrop had a two-run total time of 2:00.38 to help the Colby women place fifth in the team competition. Nicole Wessen was 17th in 2:03.51, Siri Ashton was 24th in 2:04.99 and Caitlin Healey took 28th in 2:10.33.

Warner Nickerson was first after the opening run for the Colby men's alpine ski team in the giant slalom. However, he settled for ninth place in 1:56.84 (54.20 first run) after some problems on the second run. Robert Saunders placed 22nd in 1:58.38, Charlie Reed was 26th with a 1:59.32 and Rory Kelly took 27th in 1:59.52 in helping the Mules take sixth in men's giant slalom racing.

Fred Bailey placed 19th for the Colby men's Nordic team in the 10-kilometer freestyle. Bailey had a time of 29:12.8 to earn the top 20 finish. The Colby men placed seventh as Kris Dobie was 29th in 29:48.7 and Brandon Smithwood took 30th in 29:49.7.

Hillary Easter placed 23rd for the Colby women's Nordic team in 17:29.0 over five kilometers. The Colby women's Nordic team finished in eighth place.

Colby is seventh in the team overall standings heading into Saturday's competition.
