NICKERSON SECOND, LATHROP SIXTH FOR COLBY ALPINE TEAMS
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. --- A day after winning an Eastern title in the slalom,
Colby College alpine skier Warner Nickerson (New Hampton School/Tilton,
N.H.) took second place in the giant slalom in the Eastern Intercollegiate
Ski Association (EISA) Championships at Middlebury College on Saturday.
Abbi Lathrop (North Conway, N.H.) took sixth place for the Colby women in
the giant slalom.
University of New Hampshire's Benjamin Drummond had the best times on both
runs for a winning total time of 1:56.80 (56.75, 1:00.05). Nickerson was
56.96 on his first run and added a 1:00.10 on his final run for a 1:57.06
total time.
The Colby men's alpine team finished fifth in the giant slalom with 92
points. Robert Saunders (Park City, Utah) was 17th in 2:00.24 and Rory
Kelly (Charlottesville, Va.) placed 26th in 2:01.25.
Lathrop helped the Colby women place fourth in the giant slalom with 98
points. She had a 2:03.5 total time (1:00.26, 1:03.49). Middlebury's Megan
Hughes was the winner in 2:01.3. Siri Ashton (East Burke, Vt.) took eighth
place in 2:04.0 and Nicole Wessen (Rockland, Mass.) was 22nd in 2:05.7.
Colby's Nordic teams both placed eighth in their competitions. Hillary
Easter (Jay, Maine) was 23rd in 49:01.2 for the Colby women in the
15-kilometer free technique. Alex Jospe (Pittsford, N.Y.) was 35th in 51:46.5.
Brandon Smithwood (Concord, Mass.) was 24th in 53:49.1 in the 20K free
technique. Fred Bailey (Andover, Maine) took 30th in 54:16.3 and Jeff Alden
(Caribou, Maine) was 35th in 54:28.1
In the overall team standings, Colby finished sixth out of 18 schools with
624.5 points.
