COLBY SWIM TEAMS BEAT TRINITY, FALL TO WESLEYAN
BRUNSWICK, Maine --- Senior All-American Laura Miller (Manchester, N.H.)
won two events in leading the Colby College women's swimming team to a
victory over Trinity College and a tight loss to Wesleyan University on
Saturday at Bowdoin College.
The Colby women (4-4) won 190-103 over Trinity, but fell 152-135 to
Wesleyan in a meet that came down to the final event. The Colby men (3-5)
also took a win over Trinity (163.5-126.5) and had a loss to Wesleyan
(148-138) in another meet that came down to the final race.
Miller won the 100 butterfly (59.09), an event she finished second
nationally last year, and took the 100 backstroke (1:02.86). Meg Vallaly
(Lake Forest, Ill.) also won two events with victories in the 50 freestyle
(25.09) and 100 freestyle (54.30).
The 200 medley relay team of Beth Foxwell (Indianapolis, Ind.), Kelly
Norsworthy (West Hartford, Conn.), Miller and Vallaly won the 200 medley
relay in an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time of 1:50.78. The time was the 11th
fastest in Division III this season.
Tom Ireland (Exeter, N.H.) took the 50 freestyle (21.67) and the 100
freestyle (48.61) for the Colby men. Jabez Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) was a
winner in the 100 backstroke (53.10) and Evan Mullin (Winnetka, Ill.) took
the 200 freestyle (1:47.03).
