Colby swim teams take easy wins over Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. --- The Colby College women's swimming team won all 14 events in taking an easy 147-47 victory over Norwich University on Sunday.

The Colby men won 14 of 16 events in a 154-101 victory against Norwich.

Laura Miller (Manchester, N.H.) had pool records in the 100 freestyle (54.91) and the 100 individual medley (1:02.60). She also joined forces with Meg Vallaly (Lake Forest, Ill.), Beth Foxwell (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Lilli Higgins (Brookline, Mass.) in setting a pool record in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.16). Miller also had an individual win in the 50 freestyle (25.12) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team with Vallaly, Higgins and Kelly Norsworthy (West Hartford, Conn.) in 1:58.42.

Norsworthy, a first-year swimmer, took the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.08 a day after setting a school record in the 50 breaststroke (31.37) in a meet against Middlebury. The time was the fastest in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) this season.

Vallaly added wins in the 100 backstroke (1:04.31) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.28) for the Mules. Colby also received victories from Weather Potdevin (Juneau, Alaska) in the 1000 freestyle (11:22.76), Higgins in the 200 freestyle (2:02.28), Melissa Plante (Fayeteville, N.Y.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.95), Mary Warlaumont (Chappaqua, N.Y.) in the 200 butterfly (2:20.47) and Foxwell in the 200 backstroke (2:17.76).

In the men's meet, Jabez Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) set two individual pool records and was part of two relay teams that broke pool records. Dewey set records in the 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke (53.43) and was also a winner in the 500 freestyle (5:02.56).

Tom Ireland (Exeter, N.H.) had a pool record in the 50 freestyle (21.30) and also won the 100 freestyle (48.93). Dewey and Ireland got together with Mitch Bartkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) and Patrick Dean (Atlanta, Ga.) to break the pool record in the 200 medley relay (1:40.26). Ireland and Dewey also teamed up with Jared Adler (Arlington, Va.) and Evan Mullin (Winnetka, Ill.) to take the 200 freestyle relay in a pool record 1:29.08.

Bartkiewicz had wins in the 100 individual medley (57.95) and 200 butterfly (2:07.93), while Dean took the 100 breaststroke (1:02.68) and 200 breaststroke (2:18.51). Mullin also won two events with victories in the 200 backstroke (2:05.83) and 1000 freestyle (10:20.21).
