Colby men's swim team finishes seventh at NESCAC meet

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Tom Ireland (Exeter, N.H.), the 50-yard freestyle champion, took fourth place in the 100-yard freestyle Sunday on the final day of the New England Small College Athletic Conference meet at Wesleyan University.

Ireland helped Colby finish in seventh place out of 11 teams with 756.5 points. Williams College won the NESCAC title for the third straight year.

Ireland clocked a 47.08 in the eight-man championship final. Will Cunningham of Williams won the race in 46.13. Evan Mullin (Winnetka, Ill.) was 11th in 48.22 and Jared Adler (Arlington, Va.) placed 12th in 48.31.

Ian Cross (Rome, N.Y.) was eighth in 3-meter diving with 306 points (310.25 in prelims). Jabez Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) was 10th in the 200 backstroke in 1:57.53 (1:56.25 prelim) and Justin Dubois (Saskatoon, SK) was 14th in 1:59.10. Patrick Dean (Atlanta, Ga.) was 14th in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:14.62 in the final (2:11.88 prelim) and Chris DeSantis (Wellesley, Mass.) was 16th in 2:16.10.

Colby's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Adler, Dubois, Ireland and Mullin placed sixth in 3:11.20.
