HOPE, Mich. --- Colby College is in 10th place after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Hope College.
The Mules' best-ever finish was 20th at last year's meet. Colby was expected to have its best scoring day on Friday, but the Mules swam well on Thursday to get into the top 10.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Beth Foxwell (Indianapolis, Ind.), Kelly Norsworthy (West Hartford, Conn.), Laura Miller (Manchester, N.H.) and Meg Vallaly (Lake Forest, Ill.) earned All-America honors by finishing in sixth place in 3:54.44 (3:54.26 prelim).
Norsworthy, one of the top breaststrokers in Division III as a first-year student, placed ninth and won the consolation final with a time of 2:08.01 in the 200-yard individual medley. Norsworthy, who came in as the 13th seed, had earlier broken her own school record with a 2:09.24 in a preliminary race.
