Norsworthy third in 100 breaststroke as Colby moves up
HOPE, Mich. --- Kelly Norsworthy finished in third place in the 100-yard breaststroke in helping Colby College move up two places to eighth in the overall team standings after two of three days at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Hope College.
Norsworthy had a time of 1:04.46 to finish behind champion Lindsay Payne (1:02.88) of Williams College and runner-up Kaitlyn Orstein of Washington & Jefferson. Norsworthy and Orstein are both first-year swimmers, while Payne is a senior. Norsworthy earned All-America honors for her finish. Annie Muir was 17th in the event for Colby.
Colby is in eighth place in the team standings with 115 points heading into Saturday's final day of competition. The Mules' best ever finish at the NCAA meet was 20th last year.
Laura Miller also earned All-America honors once again in the 100 butterfly. She placed sixth this year in 57.50 (57.21 prelim) after taking second place last year.
Norsworthy and Miller also joined forces with Melissa Plante and Lilli Higgins to take sixth place in the 200 medley relay and earn All-America honors with a time of 1:47.70.
Meg Vallaly placed 12th in the 200-yard freestyle in earning honorable mention All-America honors with a 1:54.87 clocking.
Vallaly, Norsworthy, Higgins and Beth Foxwell took 14th place in the 800 freestyle relay in 7:50.66.
