Garcia earns All-America honor in triple jump

WAVERLY, Iowa --- Colby College senior Xavier Garcia (Stoneham, Mass.) saved his best leap ever in the triple jump for his final competition after taking sixth place and earning All-America honors in the event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Garcia set a school record with a leap of 48-6.75. His old school record was 48-2 from last year and his best leap so this season was 47-5.

Garcia's leap was so good that it bettered any Division III jump this season. New Jersey City's Hyron Griffith came into the meet with a then season-best leap of 48-5.25. Unfortunately for Garcia, five others also beat Griffith's season-best jump. Lincoln University first-year student Yudehwheh Gbaa won the title with a jump of 49-6.25.

Also for the Colby men, Jason Foster (Waterbury, Vt.) did not qualify for the final of the hammer throw after a 170-8 effort.
