Cleaver, Adams on NESCAC volleyball all-conference team
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College volleyball players Cait Cleaver (Unionville/Kennett Square, Pa.) and Kaitlin Adams (Athol/Athol, Mass.) were each named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference Volleyball All-Conference second team Thursday.
Cleaver, a junior outside hitter, was named to an all-conference team for the third straight year. She made the second team and was conference Rookie of the Year in her first year, and was on the first team in 2003.
Cleaver's numbers were slightly down this year after the graduation of setter Kimberly Prescott, but she still had a fine statistical year with 395 kills, 462 defensive digs, 38 service aces, and 60 blocks. Cleaver is fifth in NESCAC in kills per game (3.76) and ninth in digs (4.50).
Cleaver has 1,165 career kills in her three years at Colby and should easily break the school record of 1,302 kills.
Adams, a junior co-captain along with Cleaver, had her best year at Colby with 294 kills, 56 service aces, 77 blocks, and 115 digs. She had the best hitting percentage on the team at .376 and also hit .331 in conference play.
Adams earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors earlier this year after helping Colby to wins over Maine rivals Bates and Bowdoin. She had a .656 hitting percentage in the two matches, including a school record .789 with 16 kills in a three-game win over Bates.
Adams and Cleaver have helped Colby to three straight 20-plus win seasons and the Mules are 67-29 over three years.
