COLBY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS LEAGUE OPENER OVER TUFTS
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Regina Wohl (Westbrook/Westbrook, Maine) had 16
points, including a big 3-point shot late in the game, to lift the Colby
College women's basketball team to a 59-54 win over Tufts University in the
New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opener for both
teams on Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Colby improved to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the league, while Tufts fell to
8-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Wohl nailed a 3-point shot with 2:28 left in the game to break a 48-48 tie
and put the Mules up for good. Wendy Bonner (Lexington/Lexington, Mass.)
hit two free throws with 1:51 remaining to put Colby up 53-48 and Tufts
never got closer than three points the rest of the way.
Colby made its last five free throws of the game and shot 20-for-25 for the
game and was 19-for-23 from the foul line in the second half.
Tanya Rosbash (Newton South/Newton, Mass.) added 11 points, seven rebounds
and four steals for Colby. Kathleen Nicholson (Kimball Union/Tuftonboro,
N.H.) had eight points, eight rebounds and six assists. Bonner finished
with nine points.
Tufts, which led 21-20 at halftime, received 16 points and five assists
from Valerie Krah (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.). Laura Jasinski
(Amherst/Leverett, Mass.) had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Jumbos.
Colby will play host to ninth-ranked Bates, a 67-48 loser at Bowdoin on
Friday, at 3 p.m. Saturday. Tufts visits second-ranked Bowdoin at 2 p.m.
