TOP-RANKED BOWDOIN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS COLBY
WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bowdoin College's Eileen Flaherty (Fairfield, Conn.)
and Colby College's Katie McCabe (Watertown, Conn.) put on one-woman shows
for their teams for much of the game, but it was Flaherty who did just a
little more to help the top-ranked Polar Bears to a 56-48 victory over
Colby College in women's basketball Saturday night at Wadsworth Gym.
Flaherty had 32 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the field and a 12-for-15
effort from the foul line. She had 23 points in the second half to help the
Polar Bears (14-1, 3-0 NESCAC) hold off the Mules (5-10, 1-2).
McCabe made her first 10 shots of the game before settling for a 10-for-15
night among her 24 points. She was 4-for-4 from the foul line and added
seven rebounds.
Bowdoin led 24-22 at halftime, but the Mules managed a few leads in the
opening 10 minutes of the second half. Colby's biggest lead was 30-26 and
the Mules had their last lead at 32-31 with 10:35 left in the game.
Vanessa Russell (Tewksbury, Mass.) was 5-for-5 from the foul line and added
nine points for Bowdoin. The Polar Bears shot just 33 percent from the
field and were 0-for-16 from 3-point range.
Colby, which shot only 31 percent from the field, also got nine points and
eight rebounds from Wendy Bonner (Lexington, Mass.). Tanya Rosbash (Newton,
Mass.) had 11 rebounds.
