Colby women's basketball falls on the road at Amherst
AMHERST, Mass. --- First-year Stefanie Reiff (Hinsdale, LI) tallied 21
points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while classmate Matia Kostakis
(Andover, MA) added 12 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks and a trio of
steals to lead the Amherst women's basketball team to a 70-60 win over
visiting NESCAC foe Colby College on Saturday afternoon.
The Jeffs improved to 12-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while
Colby dropped to 5-13 and 1-4.
Amherst led the entire way after jumping out to a 10-0 lead on buckets by
sophomore Jenny Muller (Andover, MA), junior Katie Latham (Wakefield, MA)
and Reiff. ĘColby managed to trim the deficit to two points on several
occasions in the second half, thanks in part to a 20-for-23 showing from
the free throw line and 16 Amherst turnovers. The Jeffs iced the game from
the line down the stretch, nailing eight of 11 free-throw attempts over
the final 1:08.
Muller and Latham joined Reiff and Kostakis in double figures with 11 and
10 points, respectively.
Colby first-year Regina Wohl (Westbrook, ME) led all scorers with 22
points, while senior Wendy Bonner (Lexington, MA) added 16 and rookie
Katie McCabe (Watertown, CT) chipped in with 11.
