Women's basketball captures consolation game

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Hamilton College fought back in regulation and in overtime to take a 70-67 victory over Wellesley College in the championship game of the Colby Tip-Off Tournament in women's basketball Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

In the consolation game, Colby College took a 58-46 victory over St. Joseph's (Maine) College.

Hamilton's Erin Daugherty (Chatham, N.J.) hit a baseline shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime at 60-60.

Wellesley (1-1) scored the first five points of overtime for a 65-60 lead, but Hamilton (2-0) used some full-court pressure and quickly ran off eight straight points to take the lead for good. Jessica Barrows (Old Saybrook, Conn.) had the final four points for Hamilton.

Tournament MVP Tricia Czeski (Amsterdam, N.Y.) had 12 points and six rebounds for the Continentals. Pumla Sathula, who made the all-tournament team, added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Erin Johnson (Center Monches, N.Y.), who made the all-tournament team for Wellesley, had 17 points and eight assists. Bridget Harris (Newbury Park, Calif.) had 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Sefi Adasi (Rockville, Md.) added 17 points and 11 boards.

Colby (1-1) got 14 points, seven rebounds, and four steals from first-year guard Tanya Rosbash (Newton, Mass.) in the victory over St. Joseph's. Kathleen Nicholson (Tuftonboro, N.H.) added 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting and Wendy Bonner (Lexington, Mass.) finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and four steals while earning all-tournament team honors.

St. Joseph's (0-2) led 27-26 at halftime, but Colby went on an 18-0 run to start the second half and kept the Monks off the scoreboard for the opening 9:31 of play.

Margaret Blauvelt (Dixfield, Maine) led the Monks with 14 points and 10 rebounds and was on the all-tournament team. Brittany Rauscher (Oakland, Maine) and Laura Pelkey (Palmyra, Maine) both had 10 points.
