NICHOLSON, McCABE LEAD COLBY WOMEN PAST GORDON
WATERVILLE, Maine --- First-year guard Kathleen Nicholson (Tuftonboro,
N.H.) had 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Colby College women's basketball
team did the job defensively in a 60-43 victory over Gordon College in
non-conference play Tuesday night.
First-year forward Katie McCabe (Watertown, Conn.) added 17 points and six
rebounds. McCabe shot 7-for-9 from the field and Nicholson was 5-for-8.
Colby (2-1) made it tough on Sarah DeLuca (Gray, Maine) all night. DeLuca
averaged 20.8 points per game last year and was averaging 25 points in
Gordon's opening two games. The Mules held DeLuca to 4-for-10 shooting and
just eight points in 33 minutes.
Despite playing just 20 minutes because of foul trouble, Colby senior Wendy
Bonner (Lexington, Mass.) still had six points, nine rebounds, and four
assists. Tanya Rosbash (Newton, Mass.) finished with eight points and five
rebounds for the Mules. Katie Harris (Somerville, Mass.) played just nine
minutes, but was 2-for-3 from 3-point range for six points.
Genny McWhorter (Argyle, N.Y.) led Gordon (0-3) with 17 points. Kara
Pillsbury (Haverhill, Mass.) had seven points and five rebounds.
Colby led 29-28 at halftime, but slowly pulled away in the second half. The
Mules held Gordon to just 24 percent shooting in the second half (31.5
percent for the game) and had a sizable 54-32 rebounding advantage.
Colby will play at Maine Maritime at 7 p.m. Monday.
